“In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” – 1 Peter 1:6-7

`  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `

As you go through life’s struggles and joys, temptations, loss and hurt, world changes and politics (aaaah, politics! Come Lord Jesus!), you know all this is temporary. All except for your relationship with the Lord, and in some way your relationship with family and friends who are also in the Body of Christ. Jesus treasures you  (You treasure Him, yes?*)  and he longs for you to be with Him for eternity.

While still in the here and now, God also longs for your healing. We know the proof of that is in Christ’s sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection! By His wounds are we healed**.  Why then does God choose not to completely heal all believers in every area of our being? In fact, why does he not just keep us all from getting hurt in the first place? After all, only good comes from God. Well, the fall of man brought sin, which brings hurt, disease, pain. Most of us understand the answer: free will. And in order for us to fully exercise free will, we need to understand the full spectrum: the evilness of any heart outside of God, and the total goodness of the heart of God. So when we see the result of sin, we can also see our need for a Saviour. The natural consequences of living in this sinful world is some form of pain, sickness/disease, loss, physical death. The supernatural consequence of believing in God’s grace here on earth is spiritual healing. Our healing brings glory to Him. Our testimony of our faith in Jesus, regardless of our burdens also brings glory to him.

Yet healing is a lifelong process and comes only after brokenness and complete trust and surrender. Many of us have learned that it takes some tough lessons in life to bring us to that point.  (Isn’t surrender a daily obedience thing? My, how I struggle with total surrender!) Healing comes through total humility and being in awe of Him, and brings a boldness in Him (we know it is not arrogance with Him). And while our Heavenly Father would will for us all to have total physical, emotional or mental healing, He is most concerned with your spiritual healing on this earth. And while we wonder what his big plan is when we are struggling, we know He gave us the Holy Spirit as out comforter. Through our struggles, he also gives us discernment. James 1:5-6 assures us:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. (NKJV)

Then, through all your mess, God will show you little pieces of the puzzle to the Big Picture, as He uses you mightily to touch others for His glory!

PRAYER
Lord, we know that we are all a mess, broken, hurt, lost without you. We thank You that You specialize in cleaning up messes! Your love draws us to Yourself, while we are still in our sinfulness. When we confess our sin and fully believe in your Son, we know we become a new creature in Christ, and You see us righteous, because of Christ. You see the Whole Picture! And since You finish what You start, believers will one day be fully healed, perfected, complete, holy, and finally with You for eternity!

SCRIPTURE, IN CONTEXT, TO GUIDE YOU
Philippians 1:5-6  “because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (NIV)

Revelation 21:2-4  “Then I, John,[a] saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the  tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

*Matthew 6:19-21  “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

`  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `  `

* To think about… What are your treasures?
